Earlier this month I was walking the upstairs cardio room at the gym where I work. A member alerted me to a treadmill machine with a worn-out running belt. This is the wide belt a person walks or runs on during the exercise. I looked at it and saw the torn, ragged parts of it and thought it was dangerous to use. It could catch someone’s foot as they were using it and trip them.
I reported it on our maintenance form so the owner would see it. He agreed it was dangerous and asked our outside Sports equipment company to replace it when they could. They were here to work on a couple of machines and the projects took too long for them to get to this treadmill.
“Do you want me to replace it?”, I said to our owner. He said sure. I started to research removing and replacing the running belt and found the manufacturer’s web site with rough instructions in a picture format. No video! One Wednesday morning I started looking at it and had problems getting the large plastic pieces disconnected. I took a break and resumed Friday morning. It took around three hours and I got it replaced. The new running belt was a little narrower than the original but it works.
A few weeks later it continues to run and serve our members.
