One of the martial art disciplines I practice is ground-based Jiu-Jitsu.  A common position is to be on your knees or stomach on the mat or opponent. We where uniforms most of the time and the knees are usually reinforced with fabric or padding.  These uniforms get pulled, held, and slid across the mat.  I have three uniforms and my oldest has been repaired many times around the knees.  My Sister has done it, my wife and even myself.  My wife is saying now I’m on my own on this pair on her last mending.  I can’t do a good a job as my wife and sister but I still try.

I’m going to keep mending them for sentimental reasons. I guess it’s the pride in keeping my first uniform functional when I could have retired it.  The worn material,  patches and stitches show I’ve been doing Jiu-Jitsu for a long time.
