The guys at Basches Martial Arts say I have 6 or 8-pack abdominals. I don’t know if they are, but after looking at them I can say my abs are in the best shape of my life.

Some people will ask me what I do for them so I thought I’d write about them today.  Presently, I don’t perform any solo abdominal work at Spiece Fitness. Three or four years ago I did.  You may ask how can that be?   My abs have stayed toned for a few reasons:  I do Jiu-Jitsu and Karate at Basches Martial Arts and  Group classes at Spiece Fitness.

Stand-up martial arts works the abs by holding them tight as I take kicks and punches to the core section of my body.  The ground-based Jiu-Jitsu uses the whole body and the abs get worked heavy.  The group classes at Spiece include core and ab work in Group Blast and Group Centergy. Group Blast is mostly cardio which makes me perspire which helps me stay lean. The Group Core class focuses on the abs a lot and obliques.

Another aspect that’s helped make my abs more visible is changing my eating habits over the last 10 years. Less grains and more vegetables, fruits, fish, turkey, nuts, eggs and other foods have trimmed my stomach fat.

If you want to strengthen and enhance your abs, take some group classes that include your abs at your gym. Take some martial arts like Jiu-Jitsu, too.  It’s more beneficial and fun with a group!
