I’m a martial artist who does Taekwondo and Jiu-Jitsu. when I’m Catalyst Fitness NE, I like to practice kicks and punches on the heavybag in the turf room.  It let’s me punch and kick hard and no one get’s injured.   It’s not the greatest setup for a few reasons, but I use it when I can.

One problem is the support stand doesn’t allow full, 360 degree access.  Ones I’ve used at other gyms hang from the ceiling or from a yardarm and I can travel completely around it like a real fight.  The stand is in a corned or the turf room which always restrict access.

Now the bag is closer the to support post.

A few weeks ago, I went into the turf room to get some heavybag work in and I found the support hook broken that holds the bag. It may have been worn with use and finally snapped or maybe some member abused it and it broke.  It doesn’t matter now.  The bag was tied around the support with the chains.  You could still use it, but it strikes the stand more often now on my kicks and some of my punches.  I try and aim away from the stand to minimize striking it. It hasn’t fallen down yet or snapped so I’m hoping it stays intact.

Catalyst isn’t a Martial Arts gym so I should be glad we at least have a heavybag even though it isn’t the way I’d like it hung and supported.

Not much room to move around the heavybag
